Research and field work

Develop leads. Follow the facts.

  • Review what is known: organize last-known contact, reported sightings and information you are authorized to share into a timeline.
  • Research relevant leads: examine public records and available online information, checking identity matches and conflicting details.
  • Follow up in the field: conduct appropriate inquiries and lawful observation within the agreed location and scope.

The approach depends on the circumstances, available information and any existing police investigation.

What you receive

Documented findings and clear updates.

  • A record of research and field activity completed
  • Relevant leads, source notes and verification status
  • Clear distinctions between confirmed facts, reported information and unanswered questions

Scope, estimated fees, expenses and communication arrangements are agreed in writing before work begins. Relevant findings can be organized for the investigating agency.

Should I contact police first?

Yes. Report the disappearance promptly to the appropriate law-enforcement agency. North Carolina prohibits a required waiting period before accepting a missing-person report. Read the state reporting rule. DarkWater provides investigative support; emergency response and search-and-rescue are handled by the appropriate agencies.

Can you guarantee finding someone?

No. A location or reunion cannot be promised. Each request is reviewed for lawful purpose, safety, conflicts and jurisdiction. Adult privacy and safety are considered before contacting someone or sharing location information.

Where do you work?

Field work is available in Hickory, Hudson, Lenoir and surrounding North Carolina communities, generally within roughly two hours of the local area, subject to scope, travel and availability. In-person discussions are by appointment.

What should I send in the first message?

Share your relationship to the missing person, the city or county, whether a police report has been filed and a safe way to reply. Keep names of subjects, private messages, identity documents and other sensitive records out of the first text or public form. Arrange an approved channel before sending case material.
